The GFWC Manistique Women's Club is very active in the community. Learn more about their activities below.
Arts and Culture
We assist with the beautification of Manistique.
We provide monetary support to Operation Petunia. We plant flowers and perennials around town in large planters. We help keep the flowers and baskets around town watered.
Civic Engagement and Outreach
GFWC Manistique, along with 4-H, Boy and Girl Scouts, and the Kiwanis Builders Club, received a grant from the Schoolcraft Community Conservation District in the spring of 2023 to form the Manistique Community Garden on the corner of Mackinac Ave and Wolf Streets. For more information on the Garden, visit https://www.gfwcmanistique.org/manistique-community-garden.
Members of the Club are docents at the Schoolcraft's Pioneer Park and have spent many hours at the Museum store downtown Manistique.
We have a warming tree between Thanksgiving and the New Year, filled with donations of warm mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves.
We provided monetary donations and items for women and children at Harbor House.
We are an annual supporter of Bay Cliff and sent monetary donations and assorted needed items in May to the Camp.
We hold an annual tea for the graduating senior girls and their mothers in April at the Zion Lutheran Church.
Education and Libraries
Each year GFWC Manistique donates $100 to the Manistique Public Library to honor those members who have passed away.
We have three very active Little Free Libraries in town. Members keep them stocked with books.
We provide scholarships to local band students to help them with camp expenses.
The Club is also a Band Booster.
We provide a $1000 annual scholarship to a Manistique HS Senior.
Environment
We have many members planting trees and pollinators in areas around Manistique.
Health and Wellness
We provide cakes and entertainment once a month at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility to the 90+ residents who choose to come to the Birthday Party and celebrate those who have a birthday at the facility.
Fundraising
Flower Cards - The Flower Shop/Ben Franklin's in Manistique is our partner providing small bouquets each month to those who purchase flower cards for $40 from a member or the Flower Shop.
Christmas and Spring Auctions - We hold a small auction at our December meeting and the proceeds go to the Senior Scholarship at the High School. The Spring auction proceeds go to the general fund to help support local initiatives.
Communications Committee
The communications committee takes pictures at our local events and posts them to this website. Articles are also written every month and sent to our two local papers; The Advisor and The Pioneer Tribune.
